Responsible for applying plant science principles to improve wastewater treatment processes, including the use of plants in phytoremediation, wetland management, and eco-friendly wastewater recycling. The role involves research, monitoring, and management of plant-based systems that aid in pollutant removal, water purification, and the sustainable management of natural ecosystems surrounding the treatment facility. Contribution to sustainable and eco-friendly wastewater treatment solutions.
• Conduct research and develop strategies for the use of plants in phytoremediation and biofiltration within wastewater treatment processes.
• Design and oversee constructed wetlands or similar systems for wastewater management.
• Monitor plant health, growth, and effectiveness in removing contaminants such as heavy metals, nutrients, and organic pollutants.
• Collaborate with engineers, microbiologists, and environmental scientists to integrate plant-based systems with mechanical and chemical treatment processes.
• Perform field assessments of plant species suitable for wastewater environments and local ecosystems.
• Provide guidance on native and non-invasive plant species for use in facility landscaping and wetland restoration.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards related to plant-based treatment methods.
• Analyze data on water quality, plant performance, and pollutant reduction, and prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders.
• Stay updated on emerging research and technologies in environmental botany and sustainable wastewater management.
• Other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Botany, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Proven experience working with plants in environmental or wastewater treatment settings.
• Knowledge of phytoremediation, wetland ecology, and wastewater treatment technologies.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect and interpret plant and water quality data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
• Must possess a valid Utah State Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in constructed wetlands, bioreactors, or natural wastewater treatment systems.
• Understanding of local flora and its application in wastewater treatment or habitat restoration. • Certification in wetland science or water quality management is a plus.
