• Develop and assist management in implementing a safety program following nationally accepted principles of worker safety and industrial hygiene.
• Analyze safety needs and consult with management to determine safety training priorities.
• Develop a budget for training supplies and equipment.
• Develop and coordinate programs to promote workplace safety.
• Train, inspect, and collaborate with departments to prevent accidents and investigate their occurrences.
• Ensure worksites comply with OSHA regulations and evaluate and modify workplace practices and procedures to reduce injuries and eliminate hazards.
• Record, analyze, and report on safety experience, trends, statistics, costs, needs, and effectiveness.
• Informs management on developments, problems, and strategies.
• Stay current with local, state, and federal safety standards on reporting requirements for accidents and hazardous chemical releases and update management on state and federal OSHA requirements.
• Develop work procedures and guidelines for safe operations.
• Assist with confined space, trenching and shoring, and noise protection programs.
• Respond to and assist management with investigating work-related injuries, motor vehicle accidents, property damage, visits from Utah OSHA, and other safety and emergency-related occurrences.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports regarding safety programs, accident trends, and vital statistics.
• Provide oversight and direction to management for safety and related programs, including employee safety recognition appreciation, new employee orientation, and programs for employee recreation, fitness, and communication.
• Coordinate safety committee meetings and assess employee and departmental safety violations.
• Assists in developing and training the emergency response team and all employees in emergency preparedness procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from high school, plus a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene. Six (6) years experience performing safety-related duties in water or sewer maintenance, general maintenance, construction, treatment plant operations or related field.
2. Education and work experience may be substituted for the other on a year-for-year basis.
3. Working knowledge of UOSH, OSHA, and related safety regulations
4. Possession of a Certified Safety Profession (CSP) certification and ability to obtain any certifications or licenses required by the District.
5. Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels, plus contractors, vendors and general public..
6. Willingness to work extended or modified shifts if required and respond to emergencies and other diverse operational demands.
7. Possession of a valid Utah State Driver’s License.
8. Must pass Utah Wastewater Operator certification withing 1 year.
