General Description

Under general supervision from the Water Distribution Supervisor, performs technical work in the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and monitors the water distribution system by means of SCADA

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from high school and three (3) years’ experience in the water industry with some experience in water line maintenance and operation of a SCADA system instrumentation and automation or any equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Special Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver License.
  • Must possess Class IV Water Distribution Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must possess Inductive Automation, Ignition Core Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Performs duties on trouble truck and must be generally available and respond within thirty (30) minutes to emergency "call outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions.
Essential Duties
  • Routinely checks functions of all well and spring operations, i.e. head pressures, line pressure, sand separators, pressure recorders and pump station operations. Performs preventative maintenance on pumps, including electronic metering pumps and motors as necessary
  • Prepares detailed reports of performance and condition of pumping facilities. Assists with completing special and technical reports for State and Federal agencies.
  • Identifies, designs, and constructs improvements to instrumentation and sampling processes at all Murray City utility facilities.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and calibration of various SCADA instrumentation. Performs and analyzes software and hardware installation/upgrades for SCADA. Reviews and approves SCADA drawings.
  • Performs routine sampling for bacteriological analysis including fluoride content, radiological, pesticide, chemical analysis, lead and copper, trihalomethanes, chlorine residuals, pH, temperature and conductivity.
  • Responsible for the mechanical and electronic equipment systems at various water/wastewater sites, well stations, lift stations and pressure reducing valve sites; installs, maintains, tests, repairs, and replaces defective telemetry and mechanical equipment within both the SCADA command center and in the field.
  • Monitors and trains lower level staff on the operation of the SCADA system.
  • Coordinates with Murray City GIS and IT departments to ensure SCADA network security and the mappings for the water utility is correct.
  • Performs inspections and completes the necessary forms for the inspections of all water mains, service lines, meter boxes and fire lines.
  • Checks and maintains all electrical, fiber optics, SCADA, telemetering and telephone equipment associated with the water system.
  • Performs specialized work involving installation, maintenance, repair, inspection and testing of water meters, backflow prevention devices, regulating valves, well and booster pump equipment.
  • Responds to trouble calls from Water, Sewer, Streets, Power, Police and Fire Dispatch; assists water, streets and sewer crews as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.
