Summary

Responsible for maintaining the water and sanitary sewer systems. Duties include operating equipment, specialty tools, machinery, and commercial vehicles, as well as performing manual and skilled work.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Regularly use hands to handle objects.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 80 pounds; occasionally up to 125 pounds.
  • Work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wet, humid).
  • Available for emergency calls 24/7 for water/sewer operations.

Essential Functions

  • Operate and service water and sanitary systems.
  • Maintain reporting requirements for DEQ, handle inspections, cleaning, and water sampling.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles/equipment.
  • Perform general labor and snow removal.
  • Adhere to safety policies and practices.
  • Carry out tasks related to Public Works as directed by the mayor.
  • Assist with weekly residential garbage collection.
Tasks Related Responsibilities

Operate and Service Water Systems

  • Maintain and repair water system.
  • Perform emergency water work repairs. Install and maintain water metering equipment.
  • Review blueprints, as-built plans, and GIS for locations of utilities for construction.
  • Maintain and repair wells, tanks, pumps, etc.
  • Ability to mark out water and sewer utilities.
  • Respond to blue stake notifications within 2 business days.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral instructions and written materials.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in climatic extremes.
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of trucks, equipment, motors, and machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with township staff and the public.
  • Ability to adhere to township rules and regulations, federal and state guidelines, etc.
  • Computer and SCADA knowledge.
  • Heavy equipment operator certification.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
  • Education/Experience:
    • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and experience in maintenance and repair work.
  • Special Requirements:
    • Possession of water and sewer certifications or the ability to obtain both within 6 months.
    • Possession of a valid Utah driver’s license.
    • Must be able to pass a drug test upon acceptance of employment.
    • Must be willing to get a CDL if necessary.
